57 The Bells of St. John's..jpg

Bartizan Belfry

The belfry was first constructed in the 18th century, perhaps when the lead on the spire was last renewed in 1767.  Since then, it has been repaired several times, most recently in 1965.

These bells themselves have not been playable for more than 90 years since the new Carillon of 35 bells was installed inside the tower in 1934 as part of the Kirk becoming the War Memorial for Perth & Perthshire after the 1st World War.

All the bartizan bells will be removed to a safe place during the repairs and returned to their stations above the City in June.

Working Together

We are beginning a programme of repairs to our 500-year-old Spire.
